Design with Green in Mind

You've probably heard a lot of news about different ways that you can save money on energy costs by making small changes in your home. However, what if your home hasn't been built yet, what do you do then?

Well for starters, you can hire an eco friendly builder and designer, but there are still other ways that you can save money and help the environment. I'm not talking about Energy Star appliances, although those will save you about 5% of your energy costs per year. In this case, I'm talking about building with green materials that not only help you save money on energy costs, but also help the environment at the same time.

Ok, so building with green products sounds cool, but where do you get them and how much do they cost? Well lucky for you, the answer is easy! Simply find a green products directory, which will break down materials by the type and style so that you can easily choose what you need. I'm betting that if you walked into your local home store and asked a clerk for green friendly materials, they'd look at you like they had no idea what you are talking about. Don't worry though, because there are plenty of people that do.

If you look in the right places, particularly on the internet, you will be able to find a wide range of energy friendly products that can help you design your home with green in mind. Not only will this save you money in the long run, but you'll have the peace of mind knowing that you didn't hurt the environment in the building of your home. You'll have a home that is built out of energy friendly and energy efficient materials. In this day and age, with these kinds of materials so readily available, there is no reason not to go with green products.

If you don't feel like shopping for these items on your own, no problem, simply look for a green home builder, who will more than likely have a lot of resources at his disposal. This new breed of designer knows exactly where to go to find the right eco-friendly products for your home. In fact, they can probably get them much cheaper than you could on your own. However, just to be safe and make sure that your builder is buying the right materials, you can use a green product directory to check each product that goes into you're newly built home.

You can find homewrap, appliances, sheeting, windows, insulation, and practically any other material that goes into building a home right inside of these directories. Need an Energy Star appliance or light bulb? Well these directories have them all. So whether you are building a home as your own contractor, or you are hiring a home builder, make sure that you find a directory to see what products you can use to save money and help the environment so that your home is designed with green in mind.
