Mobile Marketing For Radio Stations
Radio advertising has traditionally been a relatively inexpensive marketing medium compared to television. Mobile marketing allows advertisers to take advantage of the immediacy of radio ads with the advertising power of television that mobile marketing offers advertisers. Mobile marketing allows businesses to reach a targeted audience for a very low cost. 62% of all Americans are part of a wireless network that uses mobile technology while away from home or work. In addition 58% of all Americans have used a cell phone of Personal Digital Assistant to email, text message, access maps, or take pictures.
A Majority of Americans carry cell phones wherever they go and this provides a unique opportunity for advertisers to reach targeted audiences and can be timed specifically for maximum effect. The applications of mobile marketing are virtually limitless. Search engine giant Google sees mobile as 'the recreation of the internet' and Google plans to launch its own operating system. Common Short Codes have made it easy for brands to connect with mobile customers. A customer responds by texting a four or five digit number to answer a mobile ad or to respond to a traditional print, radio, or television ad with a short code. When a potential customer responds that person's phone number becomes part of a database that the advertiser can use in the future.
Many radio stations are already using mobile technology and short codes for voting, contests for concert tickets, announcing appearances of radio personalities, and informing their database of special events sponsored by the station. Radio stations are embracing mobile like never before. Some cell phones allow access to radio stations via mobile devices. Advertisements can be timed for maximum effect. Many radio stations have specific audiences. For example a classic rock station will generally appeal to older listeners, rap and hip hop stations will generally appeal to a much younger audience, and top 40 stations will appeal to a wide audience. Mobile marketing allows stations and advertisers to tailor there ads to any one of many targeted groups.
Mobile marketing allows a business to establish a database of customers who have opted in. These are customers who have chosen to receive text message ads and have opted in by responding to a text ad. This protects the consumer from receiving unsolicited annoying spam type ads. It also allows consumers to receive ads and promotions that are likely to be of interest and real value.
Mobile marketing is in inexpensive and very efficient way to reach an educated and affluent audience. It is no surprise that mobile marketing has been called the 'future of advertising.'
