Chicago Fire Tickets- Fire Add Ward and Dimitrov, But Others Not So Secure

By Brent Warnken
Apr 1, 2009
The Chicago Fire could be on the way to a great season in 2009, but that doesn't mean that the roster from this season will continue years into the future. Prior to the start of this season, they made positive additions to their roster with the signing of defender Tim Ward and forward Stefan Dimitrov. Other news isn't so sweet, however, as other players' status isn't as secure. Midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco has already said that he will be leaving at the end of the season, when his contract is set to be up. Longtime defender C.J. Brown is also not a sure bet for next year, as he is already contemplating whether to come back for another season or retire. Fans can be there to see all of them play with Chicago Fire tickets online.

Ward was quite a steal for the Fire as he is formerly a Generation adidas player. He was surprisingly waived by the Colorado Rapids. Ward was raised new Chicago in Waukesha, Wisconsin. During his teen years, he trained with the U-17 Residency program in Bradenton, Florida. He entered the MLS in 2005 after he was chosen by the NY/NJ MetroStars in the first round of that year's MLS SuperDraft. The next year, he was traded to the Columbus Crew, where he spent two seasons. Last season, he was traded to the Colorado Rapids. His experience isn't just in the MLS as he has also played for national teams at the U-23, U-20, U-18 and I-17 levels.

Dimitrov comes to the MLS from the college ranks. He grew up in Bulgaria, which was when he was first introduced to soccer. His father won the green card lottery, allowing him to come to the United States. He played at clubs in New York before eventually enrolling at Concordia College. Last season, he tallied 23 games and one assist in 17 games, giving him the most goals of any player in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer in 2008.

Cuauhtemoc Blanco first joined the Fire midway into the 1007 season. At that time, he signed a three-year deal with the Fire. He stated that he has a great relationship with his teammates, and did not give much of a reason for his departure, other than the percentage of players at each position on the roster. Other than playing with the Fire, he has also played professionally in his home country of Mexico and has appeared with Mexico to play in two World Cups and the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.

After playing his college days with San Jose University, he played on season in the USISL professionally with the San Francisco Bay Seals. He entered the MLS the next season with the Chicago Fire. He has stayed with the fire for his entire MLS career, but the 33-year-old defender is beginning to contemplate the end of his career. Along with his accomplishments in the MLS, he has earned 15 caps with the U.S. Men's National Team.
