The Ease of Tattoo Laser Removal

The advances in laser technology have enabled a procedure for safely removing the permanent ink of a tattoo. Many people opt to have tattoos removed in age or at the onset of career changes as the appearance of tattoos can be a detriment to social mobility, and in most cases will negatively influence interviewers. While it is important to consider carefully before deciding to get a tattoo, it is now more and more becoming a popular option to safely and easily remove these tattoos through laser technology.

Tattoo laser removal is generally about as painful as the process of obtaining the tattoo in the first place, however the procedure does not last long at all. Depending on the size and placement of the tattoo, the procedure may only take from 2-3 minutes to complete. The laser works by using light energy to penetrate the outer layers of the skin and break up the ink particles that lay beneath the epidermis. Because the needle of the tattoo is inserted into the dermal layer, the ink is permanently affixed underneath the skin and requires invasive methods to remove. The laser sends light energy as beams through the layer of the skin. The particles of the ink are then shattered and re-absorbed by the body and excreted through the bodily waste system.

Other tattoo removal systems include skin grafts, which will excise the portion of the skin containing the tattoo and stitch the remaining skin together. Dermabrasion is also an option; this will exfoliate away the layers of the skin to diminish the appearance of the tattoo. The advantage of tattoo laser removal is that it can break-down the ink of the tattoo without utilizing invasive means. The procedure is also quick and does not require an incision or leave behind scars.

Most people find the pain in treatment bearable, however some people do use a topical anesthetic on the area to help numb the area and minimize the pain. The sessions generally do not take very long, depending on the size of the tattoo. It is recommended, however, that patients undergo a sequential treatment and have several treatments in order to effectively remove all traces of the tattoo. Side effects include discoloration of the treatment site, however this is temporary and will subside with time and cool compresses to the skin.

Tattoo laser removal is increasing in popularity as more and more people are considering removing their tattoo without using invasive means.
