Breeding Guinea Pigs - Easier Than You'd Think

Over the yers, breeding guinea pigs has become a popular pastime for several countries for many. The breeding of guinea pigs as a hobby and to create a pet for selling in a pet store, many different breeds have come to surface.

Breeders that are knowledgeable and educated in the subject have taken breeding to a whole new level by designing them to have a good number of cross breeds and mixtures of the lovable animal. Pedigrees are of course the most sought after but like dogs and many other animals, the crossbreed Heinz 57 breed is just as good. The breeding process has even produced a breed that is skinny and has hardly any hair. Despite all the breeding guinea pigs and the domesticating of these adorable guys, they are still found running about in the wild of South America.

Pedigree and Breeding

When breeding guinea pigs, there are several kinds that potential consumers are most familiar with seeing and hearing. The breeding guinea pigs area of expertise is getting very popular as more and more in our society settle in to smaller living quarters such as apartments and dorm rooms where owning a dog or even a cat is absolutely out of the question.

Breeding guinea pigs has produced several names for this animal; long, short and rough haired. These are the ones that are most often heard of and seen in our society. These are multicolored pigs, with at least two colors or more and that is how to best identify them also. Selfs is another type, and are a one-colored kind of animal and they have a whole host of colors to choose from. The neat things about these is that breeders recognize them as a separate sub division of the original breed. Every single color is it's own sub division of this animal neighborhood.

There are many different types of guinea pigs as pets and no one is better than the other breed. The guinea pig has a similar disposition no matter the breed or pedigree unlike an animal like dogs whose pedigree does indeed play a role in temperament. Guinea pigs from any variety are quiet, peaceful creatures that love attention and are nosy and inquisitive.

You have to remember they are not pets that should be played with too aggressively as they are very fragile and are easily injured. It's best to keep them away from other pets as they suffer can suffer from anxiety attacks caused by stress.
