Identifying The Correct Target Market For Network Marketing

By ERIK GIFFORD

One of the most important initial steps in any business, let alone a networking marketing one, is to identify a group of people to whom you want to sell your product or service. This is called a "target market", and it forms the basis of all future decisions regarding marketing, promotion, and expansion.

Unfortunately, defining the term as we did above is much, much easier than defining the actual demographics of the people who should fit within a particular group. Because of its complexity, many first time network marketers or business owners often fail to identify the correct target market, and hence go on to fail miserably in their business endeavors.

Knowing this, you should now be able to understand the importance of getting this step right. The bottom line is simple - if you don't market your products to the correct group of people, you shouldn't expect to reach the optimum level of sales that your network marketing business could generate.

But all of this analysis leaves us with one question - how do you actually identify a target market in the first place? Here are a few critical tips to get you started on the right path:

1. Identify your product.

What actually is your product? What comes with it, and why would people want it? Try to put yourself in a range of different people's shoes - and then ask the question: "Would I, as this particular consumer, want to buy such a product?".

2. Identify the groups who wouldn't buy your product / service.

It's always useful to identify the people who would be least likely to buy your products. It is also much easier as well. For example, if your product is a highly priced e-book, then you could automatically rule out most people on a "below average" income.

Alternatively, if you were selling an accounting guide - children would probably be the least likely market in which this product would succeed.

These two tips alone should be particularly helpful in your quest for market identification. However, these aren't the only two things you are able to do. Thanks to the versatility and diversity of the internet, you can also find a number of helpful network marketing tools, specifically designed to help in these initial stages.

What might these tools be? Well, the first thing you can try is a simple Google search on a similar product. The results which come up might be able to give you tips as to what the best way of going about your own marketing and website campaigns should be. At the very least, performing these checks will allow you to get a better idea of the market you are competing in, and the current successes in the industry.

Finally, tools such as keyword generators and demographic analyzers can certainly help you with these tasks - but only to a limited extent. The best idea for the use of these tools is to combine them in with a strategic plan in order to reach the very best, most relevant target market conclusion.
