Do you have any items that you are a big collector of? Are there any family keep sakes you would love to show off, but are afraid they will get ruined if displayed on the table? Do you have more knick-knacks and items you would love to put on display, but cannot figure out a way to show them off?

Have you thought about getting a display case? Display cases are the perfect compromise between protection and decoration. It is much safer to put an item in a display case than to simply hang it on the wall or put it onto basic shelving. Display cases are designed entirely for showing off your most precious collectibles, keep sakes, and other decorations.

Beyond simply showing off your decorations, these cases are phenomenal organizational tools. By putting your most precious items in display cases it is very easy to keep your eyes on them, you always know exactly where they are at.

Another nice aspect about display cases is that they look really nice. A good display case is a lot like a good picture frame - the frame does more than simply hold the picture, it highlights it. A display case is a decorative accent that should be included in the overall design plan. When you go out to purchase a display case, don't just pick up the first cheap one you come across, consider what you will be putting in it. How well will the case highlight the items? Make sure the display case is not too large or too small - you don't want it to dominate the items on display, likewise you do not want the display items to overpower the case. Your goal should be a nice balance between the two.

Also think about specific features you would like your next case to have. If the room the case will be placed in has dim lighting you might want a case with built in lighting. If the case is in a high traffic room you might want to get a locking case to prevent the items inside from being handled. Another feature that many cases have is a mirrored back. Mirrored backs are nice because they can add a sense of fullness and depth to the display case enhancing its impact. What kind of shelving matches with your decor and the items being displayed - glass shelving, mirrored shelving or wood shelving?

When choosing display cases the most important thing you can do is consider the overall design of the room the case will be in. Consider everything from the colors and types of other furniture in the room to the placement of each piece of furniture. This will help you determine the type, size and placement of the display case which will maximize the impact of the display.
