Why Are Hundreds of Thousands of Adults Returning to College?
Today there are more working adults enrolled in college degree programs than ever before.
There are several reasons for this trend. One is that online education offers adults the opportunity to continue their education without neglecting their career or other obligations.
The greatly increased availabilty of financial aid is another major reason for the increased number of working adults in college.
The fact that employers are far more willing than ever to hire and/or promote professionals who have earned one or more degrees online has brought hundreds of thousands of adults to the world of online education.
Another big change in the higher education world that has contributed to the surge in adults furthering their education is the increased awarding of college course credit for life experience. The fact that credit for life experience reduces students' costs and the time it takes them to complete a degree provides a major incentive to many.
Of course, with more and more universities offering late afternoon, evening, and weekend classes, not all working adults are studying online. Many are returning to campuses throughout the United States.
Accessibility, affordability, the increased credibility of online degrees, and several other factors have all played a major role in the swelling number of adults pursuing degrees. However, the biggest factor driving adults back to education appears to be the need to stay current in the increasingly fast-paced world of work.
If you are not already doing so, you might want to start seriously thinking of earning your next degree. While it does require commitment and work, it has never been more convenient or more affordable. And degrees have never been more valuable.
