Canon Powershot SD630 Digital Elph Review

Today I want to share a bit of my experience with other digital camera buyers in the event you are looking for a new digital camera to purchase. I know just how hard the decision making process can be. You don't want to make a purchase based on impulse yet you don't necessarily want to do research forever either so there's the problem. And here's where I'll help by offering you my opinion on one particular model of Canon digital cameras, the Canon Powershot SD630 Digital Elph.

I have been a digital camera user for years now and have owned many different models and brands over the years but I must say, the one manufacturer I go back to over and over is Canon. In fact, the majority of digital cameras that I've owned over the years have been Canons. And if you're in the market for a new digital camera, you should definitely check out the Canon models and this Canon Powershot model particular.

When I did my initial research for this particular digital camera purchase I went to Best Buy, played with a few cameras that initially appealed to me and then wrote down a few of the model numbers that really stood out. Next, I went to Amazon and read several product descriptions and reviews about each of the cameras I had handled at Best Buy, the Canon Powershot SD630 Digital Elph included. I also looked at as many owner supplied photos as possible. Interesting just how much your perceptions change after doing a little bit of research.

The Sony, Kodak, Olympus and Nikon models that I looked at at the store may have looked good and had a higher megapixel count than the Canon, but it was all the other features that finally attracted me to the SD-630 and made up my mind. A few of the features that I liked most was the fact that this camera has unique options like Color Accent and Color Swap. I really like these features a lot because they really let you create some unique photo images without having to do much of anything. These features are also very easy to use and I took some great shots to out on my family blog in no time. And I received loads of compliments on them too.

Other outstanding features of this Canon Powershot digital camera is that you can easily transfer images via USB cable or memory card without having to use any other kinds of software. The battery charger that comes with this digital camera is also very compact, just a simple charger about the size of a small cell phone. I would suggest that you may want to consider buying a secondary battery for the camera, however, and you can get them for very good prices online. Nothing is more aggravating than having your battery run out in the middle of shooting photos so a backup battery is an amazing, and stress relieving, purchase.

The Canon Powershot SD630 Digital Elph is laid out in a very user friendly manner and it's big screen makes looking at images so much easier. I love the large LCD display on the back of the camera. One major plus of the 3" screen is that it is so easy for someone like me who likes to share the pictures with family and friends to be able to do so, right there on the spot. And the screen is so clear that you can really see a lot of detail right there on the LCD. It's great to be able to really see what you are taking compared to many digital cameras out there.

Another thing I really like about this camera is that it has video capabilities. And believe it or not, the video is suprisingly good too. In the past, taking videos on most older digital cameras I have tried were pretty low quality. I do a lot of video taping of family events like swim meets, family reunions and the like to put on our family blog and found the video option on this camera to be very nice. They have to be pretty short in length overall but they're perfect for website uploading to appear on blogs and the like.

The digital camera really lets you take some nice video footage - if you were to show a clip to someone they would probably think it was taken with a high end video camera. Keep in mind that you'll need at least a gig SD card, though to make this work smoothly.

I think that the Canon Powershot SD630 Digital Elph is one of the best point and shoot Canon models available today. Overall I am quite pleased with this digital camera and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is thinking of purchasing this particular camera. I have read in many forums before that Canon makes excellent digital cameras and now I can totally understand why based on my experiences.

The only things I would want to improve on this camera if I had the ability would be the addition of a battery life indicator, image stabilization and the inclusion of a larger SD card (it only comes with a 16MB card). Other than that I feel that the Canon Powershot SD630 Digital Elph is one of the best little point and shoot cameras on the market. Perfect for newbies, the elderly and just about everyone else as well that needs a digital camera for everyday use.
