Various Uses for a Digital Phone Recorder

Aug 17, 2007
No matter what type of business you are in there is usually a situation in which you need to record a phone conversation. This could be because you are a journalist and hold telephone interviews or you may be working with an individual in a different city and recording the phone call is much easier than taking notes. The main reason for recording a phone call is to save both sides of the conversation either for personal use or business use.

Digital phone recorders make recording your telephone calls simple. They are easy to setup and no more having to worry about cassette tapes being rewound and set-up before the call takes place. There are also several voice activated digital phone recorders that will automatically turn on the second the phone conversation begins. This makes it easy on you because you don't have to worry about turning the tape on. If you are recording your teenagers, the recorder will automatically start the second they make a phone call and they will never even know it's there. There's no clicking like the old phone recording systems.

Journalists who regularly perform interviews will definitely want to utilize a digital phone recorder. You can use the device to record telephone conversations on the phone or in person. If you spend days researching and interviewing you will find that your digital phone recorder is a must have. You are able to store hours of conversations, personal notes and even download audios to the player. There is no need to carry around the old fashioned recorder that uses cassette tapes, even the expensive mini cassettes are out of the picture now. When you are done with one project, you simply upload the information to a file in your computer or burn to a CD for safekeeping. No more boxes of cassettes and old interviews. You don't want to delete them because you never know when those old interviews might come in handy.

Have you ever been on a conference call and feverishly taking notes, but you are so busy writing that you can't keep up with the people on the phone? With a digital phone recorder you no longer have to worry about feverishly taking notes. All you have to do is hook the digital phone recorder up and take part in the telephone call. All of the vital information will be saved on the recorder for reference later. If you are in a profession where accurate information is essential then you are going to want to be certain that you use a digital phone recorder. These recordings are excellent for holding people accountable to their promises.

Digital phone recorders also allow you to upload the audios onto your personal computer. Files are saved in MP3 format, which allow you to save and listen to files on your PC, your iPod or MP3 player and they can be easily be transcribed so that you have the phone conversation on file digitally and in paper. This makes it convenient for individuals. This is great if you are a professional such as a doctor, lawyer or other business professional that needs to record phone calls on a regular basis and then have them transcribed so you can have them for your notes on a case or for a file. There are even cell phone adaptors for when you are away from the office.

Digital phone recorders also give you the ability to tape several hours at a time. This means that you can record several phone conversations and not have to download them from the recorder every time. Depending on the model you could get anywhere from 37 to 136 hours of recording time. These phone recorders aren't just for recording phone conversations either. Many come with features such as room recorder, MP3 player, a radio and USB drive. This makes it an all around useful item to have for any person on the go.

Remember that several states have laws about recording telephone conversations. You don't want to break the law so it is a good idea to check out the privacy laws in your state. Most states require that you tell the individual you are taping that you are the conversation and get their permission to say so. Also, in journalism, if it is off the record then you can't use that information in your reporting. Although, you can still tape it the conversation unless they ask you to turn the recorder off. Be up front about taping conversations and telling the individual why you are taping the conversation and they will more than likely be happy to oblige.
