Missy Elliott's Newest CD - Block Party
Hip-hop queen Missy Elliott is due to release her seventh studio album, Block Party, later this year, possibly in August or September. The new CD was originally supposed to be released in December 2007, but has been delayed several times. It is the longest time frame between studio albums for the hip-hop goddess, four years since her last album, The Cookbook, which was released in July 2005.
In an interview with Billboard, Missy said that she chose Block Party as the name of the album because it consists of a lot of dance tracks and it is a CD that can be listened to in the streets. Missy also stated that her new CD is probably more melodious and harmonious than her previous albums. She said her other albums were hip-hop driven with mixtures of other genres of music. She said this album is still definitely hip-hop but its sound resembles United Kingdom hip-hop melodies.
Missy's longtime friend and collaborator, Timbaland has some production included on this album. Some other producers include T-Pain, Pharrell, Point Guard, Danja, The Arkitects, Soul Diggaz, Danny!, The Neptunes, and more.
This new album consists of great sounds and upbeat tracks. Ching a Ling, released in January 2008 for the Step Up 2 soundtrack, Shake Your Pom Pom, also from the Step Up 2 soundtrack and Best Best, which was released after an Internet leak in June 2008, are all featured on Missy's Block Party CD. Other tracks include Hip-Hop Don't Die, Milk & Cookies, Like When You Play the Music featuring Jazmine Sullivan, Act a Fool, Fire featuring T-Pain, Love, All For You featuring Tweet, and Put It On You featuring Teyana Taylor.
Put It On You is due to be released before the album, on June 6, 2009.
