The Importance of Campus Visits
Of all the steps in choosing a college, your campus visits may be the most important because they will allow you to:
1. view all of the campus, not just the parts of it shown in the college publications or pictured on the website.
2. explore the town in which the college is located.
3. spend some time in a classroom and observe student-faculty interaction.
4. speak with current students about campus life.
5. hear from and ask questions of an admissions counselor. Admissions counselors are generally very knowledgeable, so listen closely and don't hesitate to ask questions.
6. get a handle on the campus environment. Are students friendly? Do you feel welcome? Is the overall atmosphere what you expected?
In some instances, you will have the opportunity to meet a faculty member, eat in the dining hall, attend an athletic contest or special event, or evening spend a night on campus.
If you take advantage of the chance to see as much, do as much, and ask as many questions as possible, you will almost surely know if a college is a good fit for you.
