Weight Loss Drugs: Are You Aware Of The Many Negative Effects

Recent research has shown that more people are becoming overweight every year and this occurs not only to adults but even to children who have merely started school. In order to lose those excess pounds, many individuals resort to surgery whereas other people realize that a healthy diet with regular exercise is a better method. The problem is that quite a few individuals are impatient and want instant results so they resort to taking weight loss drugs as opposed to living a healthy lifestyle.

These drugs usually work by telling the brain it's no longer starved, stimulating metabolism to aid the shedding of surplus fat. That was all well and good until the point where more investigation had concluded that there was an increased risk of heart valve disease and as a result the drugs were withdrawn. Newer drugs were developed and started to be prescribed by physicians and dietitians, some of these drugs are currently waiting for the Federal Drug Administration go ahead.

These weight loss pills have become popular and you can almost guarantee that you will know of an individual who has tried them with success. Let's be truthful, it's in our nature to like things that provide near instant results, without having to put in any effort. This method has seen consumers spend millions of dollars every year and has returned huge profits for the drug companies who develop and sell the weight loss drug.

Despite all the testing and new techniques available for manufacturers, many negative effects like nausea and diarrhea still exist with the new generation of weight control pills which, incidentally, can still be bought over the counter. The damaging negative effects have not been ruled out and it is possible that you could still endure hallucinations, stroke, tremors and heart attacks.

The negative aspects vary depending on the lifestyle and wellbeing of the person and can be minimized as long as one consults the doctor first before buying them. Troubles like depression, nausea, bad mood swings, nightmares, sleeplessness for example have all been reported when somebody has stopped taking the weight control pills.

Although these weight loss drugs do work, an increase in positive effects occurs when regular exercise is undertaken along with a change in eating habits. A low calorie diet would consist of meals that contain vitamins, minerals and fibre which are all needed for good health, and the best origins for these are fruit and vegetables.

An individual can jog every morning or sign up and workout in a gym, although just as someone should consult a doctor before taking medicines, a physician should also be consulted prior to undertaking any form of exercise. The best exercise plans should have cardiovascular and weight training exercises as this helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase a person's metabolism and help with weight loss.
