Karfas - A Welcoming Sun Kissed Town by the Sea
Just six kilometers on the outskirts of the capital of Chios is the quaint welcoming town of Karfas. Close enough to the central port and busy city, but far enough from all the commotion it is an excellent place to stay while on vacation in Chios. Karfas is a small town by the sea with a long beach that spans throughout a wide cove sheltered from strong winds and angry waves.
The wide and long golden beach of fine powdered sand and emerald colored waters of Karfas is ideal for all those who seek lazy lounging in the hot summer sun, and long days enjoying swimming and water sports. The beach itself is one of the most organized on the island offering everything from strands of umbrellas and beach loungers to cafe-bars and taverns laced along the shore.
You can have your breakfast, lunch and dinner in one of the cafes or taverns along the beach or have them serve you where you are seated under an umbrella by the shore. You can enjoy frozen coffee, cocktails or the occasional cold beer just as you emerge from your swim. If you are one of those people that can't imagine being away from the office, most establishments by the shore offer wireless internet access through Wi-Fi hot spots for free.
So much the town of Karfas as its namesake beach is welcoming to all visitors, whether they are a couple on a romantic vacation, a group of friends looking for a good time or a family who wants to entertain their children as much as relax. The sea water along the beach is extremely shallow for a long enough stretch to make it exceptionally warm and safe for children of all ages. In addition you will find a large variety of water sports for all tastes and even a secured area with inflated rubber constructions specially made for children to play while in the water.
Layered along the beach of Karfas are many hotels and rooms for rent in addition to the restaurants and cafes, which all offer a splendid sea view of the entire cove that is literally outside the window. Another alternative if you feel like putting a little distance between your morning activities and your resting are the hotels and rooms for rent on the hill a few hundred meters from the beach. There is something to be said for the calming night strolls under the moonlight on the way to a good night's sleep.
Karfas is an ideal destination to choose to stay in while visiting Chios. It offers everything you may need without having to take a trip to the mainland. You can rent a car or motorbike a few meters from the beach; find an ATM, a mini-market for groceries and fresh produce, a pharmacy and many many cafes and newsstands. From Karfas you can easily reach other towns and villages worth visiting without having to endure long drives under the hot sun.
