Living In Mexico: A Serene And Peaceful Alternative
Trying to find an uncomplicated life and get over the pressures of modern Western living may be as simple as actually living in Mexico. If you are hard-pressed on all sides by the domineering effects of the general American lifestyle, this may be a time for you to discover the merits of living in a country and culture far removed from all those modern pressures.
The Western style of living has bombarded in us pressures and influences from everywhere. Art, music, the media, politics, the consumer lifestyle, and the corporate world have all pressured us in a variety of ways and at different levels of depth. Western culture, especially the American way of life, is highly susceptible to media influences, consumerism, and individualism, with the elite and powerful sectors of the society trying to make the rest of the U.S. citizens conform to a particular code of living and thinking.
If you are a professional at the upper echelons of the corporate world, the simple living in Mexico might strike a chord within your heart. The strain and demands of the corporate lifestyle can be so taxing on a professional, and the corporate world and capitalism in general, is never satisfied with the here and now. No time for kids, no time for a good old baseball game, no time for a relaxing stroll in the park with your wife. Either we invest now or we fall out later.
The political world typically has the same oppressive lifestyle as that of the corporate world. Politics in America is highly followed and has an excellent accountability structure. Many Americans are generally very passionate about what goes on the chambers of Congress, in the office of the President, down to the state and county matters.
You can see all of the passion and participation reflected in the numerous blogs and social networking sites and on television. In contrast, Mexico has a lot of simple, backwater country, where politics are not on the same level as that of the U.S. If an expat want to be untouched by intense political activities, he has that in Mexico.
There are many things about the Western life that deserves to be mentioned and critiqued at. The deterioration of basic family values and belongingness is one of them. America has thrived on individualism and the priority of the individuals freedom more than the community of people, and that too, has negative implications on the family life. However, Mexico preserves close family ties and a close sense of community among the poblacions and pueblos in the countryside. Many will experience a sense of relief in Mexico, away from the distance and autonomy of every individual in the U.S.
These are just some of the things that trouble many an American. Living in Mexico might prove to be the key to regain ones sanity somehow, as the uncomplicated living, family and community-friendly setting, and the peace and quiet of the Mexican countryside will be a balm to a troubled mind.
