Interesting Early History of Bratislava

There are two important castle structures located in the center of Prinicipality of Nitra and Great Moravia that were built namely the Devin Castle and the Bratislava Castle during the 8th century until 907. Johannes Aventinus, a Bavarian historian in the 16th century recounted that in 805 the Bratislava Castle was restructured during the leadership of Prince Vratislav in the place of an old Roman dwelling known as Pisonium and the structure was named by him as Wratisslaburgium.

After the leadership of Samo Prince Vratislav was the next historical leader who famed from the Middle Danube region. The first account about the Devin Castle called Dowina was during 864 where it was accounted in the Fuldish Annals. In 900 it was believed to have been owned by a magnate named Lower Pannonian prince Braslav.

It was initially believed that the same person, Braslav who gave the town of Brastislava its German name called Brezalauspurc and later Pressburg and probably its new Slovak name Bratislava. These days it is assumed that the Pressburg name or Brezalauspurc is derived from Predeslausburg which come from Predslav who is believed by the historians to be a Bratislava ruler in 900.

He is also the son King Svatopluk of Moravia. The modern Bratislava is believed to have its name originating from Bretislav I who was a Czech ruler.
Bratislava as a Brezalauspurc had its first reference in 907 during the flare of the Bratislava battle in the Salzburg Annals. The Magyars were victorious over the Bavarians during the battle and it ends the Frankish East March and was completely ruled by the Magyars.

This out the end of the Great Moravia state and became a part of Hungary. Between the period of 1000 and the early 13th century there was a growth in the market of the towns industry just below the Bratislava Castle which became a major trading center in the 13th century. After this more settlement buildings were created.

The surrounding region of Bratislava was connected with the Kingdom of Hungary and it has become a frontier of connecting the two to form a key economic and political center of the kingdom. The strategic location of the castle became the main point of attacks during wars and the city became a place where the King of Hungary usually stays to hold special events and tournaments and for this it was supplied with more sophisticated equipment.
