A Memorable Business Trip: Chauffeur Car Hire And Japanese Tea
These days, in the world of business, it's not always prudent to splash out on those little extras, but as I found out a few weeks ago, giving your clients a bit of the red carpet treatment really makes a difference. My personal assistant suggested we should think about a chauffeur car hire to pick up Mr. Samamoto, who was arriving from Kyoto at Heathrow. Samamoto owned a Japanese private equity business and was considering investing in my company. I was sceptical at first, as I like to cut costs where possible, but my assistant persuaded me. And I'm glad she did.
Mr. Samamoto arrived at 6am at the airport, and, going for a taste of classic Britain, I chose a beautiful white Rolls Royce to go along with the chauffeur car hire. I organised it so myself and my assistant could be picked up before hand, and be there ready to greet Mr. Samamoto.
The weather looked like it might turn out bright but of course, it simply had to rain when we got to the airport. I really didn't want to get all wet - nor indeed did I want my guest to be wet. Happily however, the chauffeur had several umbrellas to spare. Mr. Samamoto arrived just as the heavens opened but myself, my PA and the chauffeur were there with plenty of umbrellas.
My guest did not seem to be in the best of spirits after his long flight, and the grim weather didn't help. I hoped that the chauffeur car hire would make him feel a little better. I really needed to make a good impression, as the company's success depended upon it.
The classic car was of course a joy to be in for me, but Mr Samamoto really loved it - turning out to be something of an anglophile. The traffic was terrible leaving the airport, but another perk of chauffeur car hire is having refreshments in the back, along with some light music. My guest wasn't fond of the music, so it was turned off by the chauffeur. Car hire has never been so agreeable - as the chauffeur put a CD of traditional Japanese music on! My guest was very happy.
Arriving at my office, I realised that Mr. Samamoto was really having a good time, and any worries about him not being comfortable had totally evaporated. He was smiling and we were conversing well, despite his basic English and my non existent Japanese. Opening the door for us, the well dressed, umbrella wielding chauffeur was a perfect first sight for Mr. Samamoto as he stepped out into the rain. But the umbrella's again saved us from a soaking!
While I still believe that costs need to be cut, my personal assistant made me realise that putting a bit more into presentation goes a long way. Opting for chauffeur car hire and a little Japanese tea at the office really made the meeting go well. I'm glad to say my guest decided to go ahead with the deal and helped us continue expanding. We took the satisfied Japanese man back to the airport (again with the chauffeur car hire), which rounded off a pretty good business meeting, if I do say so myself!
