Photo Pendant: Bringing Beauty And Memories Everywhere
Photo pendants are the right decorative items for those who want to combine beauty and nostalgia in one piece. It can be treated like any other kind of jewelry, but somehow it transcends more than just being ornamental; it offers the person wearing it an emotional bridge to some other loved one through the portrait contained inside the pendant. At the loneliest and most down times, a person can simply pick up a pendant from her chest and remember the experiences and the bond between the wearer and the person in the photo.
Pendants are as fashionable today as it was in the ancient times. Pendants are almost universal in appeal, judging from the numerous artifacts and evidences from many different societies, ancient or modern. The appeal of pendants comes from their passive but powerful ability to communicate something. Thus, pendants have that dual purpose that makes them alluring to wear.
These things provide an identification or remembrance of someone, something, some group, or some idea, encapsulated by a single symbol hanging from the neck. Like the proximity to the chest that it affords to the wearer, it represents something dear to the persons heart, or something significant to him/her. Aside from being tokens and symbols representing something else, they are widely used because it can reveal what the person identifies his/herself with; a group, ethnicity, and ideology, or even a religion. There are pendants used for self-affirmation such as engraved names on those popular aluminum army tags and initials carved on wood or some other moldable material.
Pendants also include talismans and amulets commonly worn by indigenous tribes around the world, which may consist of animal teeth, bones, rocks, or other symbolic trinkets. They may function as awards and prizes given to victors. Yet, first and foremost, pendants are worn by people for ornamentation and decoration. Nowadays, small pictures and portraits were gradually added to decorative pendants for nostalgic purposes or to keep the memories of their beloved. Ever since people learned to capture images on film, we have been adding and pasting photographs of people in every kind of jewelry and ornamental displays we can think of.
Photo pendants come in different shapes and sizes, depending on what a wearer prefers. These are customizable pendants and a customer has a wide range of design options to choose from. Most of these pendants are made out of an alloy of metals, commonly brass, silver, or pewter iron, which are treated to ward off rust and maintain a polished sheen. The mix of metals has to be malleable enough for the decoration to be carved, etched, and engraved with designs.
Pendants usually have openings that are designed as slits for the person wearing them to easily slide in their miniature portraits inside. Other pendants have clear glass on both sides so it can be installed with two pictures, back-to-back. The antique photo pendants that we are all familiar of are those geometrical blocks that open up like a book revealing small photos on the inside.
