Having A Fireplace Can Save Energy
Fireplaces make a home very nice and cozy. You will also find that if your home does not naturally have a fireplace, then you can always get a fake one and then use that for added light and warmth. You will want to consider the fake fireplaces and the type of energy that they use. You don't want an electric or a gas stove because your bills are going to get too high, however, you can use things like a pellet or gel fireplace or stove so that you can control how much you purchase. Plus the fuel cans are a lot cheaper than if you were to use electricity all the time. Your electric bill would get way too high.
When it comes to the fireplace, you will want to make sure that you turn your heat down so that you can save the oil or whatever it takes to run your furnace. You should keep your thermostat somewhere between 62-65 degrees so that you can be comfortable, and yet not too chilly. You will find that it is best to keep the thermostat at 62 degrees when you aren't going to be home. You can even take it as far as 68 degrees. You don't want to take it above that because you are going to use a lot more energy than you would like.
During the day you will want to light a high fire or set a gel can on fire so that you can have that added warmth and light. The thing is that you aren't going to get that much heat form the fireplace, so you will want to make sure that you consider the fact that you will need to be in that room for it to benefit. You will also want to consider the fact that when you save energy through ways of a fireplace, you will need to take safety inconsideration.
It is just common sense that you should never leave the fireplace burning and you will also want to consider the fact that you should never walk away from a burning fire either. Even though it is contained in the fireplace, you have no idea what could happen. Also, you have to watch the children very closely with the fireplace going, because the screens tend to get hot too. You will want to make sure that your fireplace is kept safe and you will want to get the chimney cleaned regularly.
A fireplace is nice to have, but you don't want to use a gas fireplace either. Make sure that you will be able to start a wood fire in the fireplace or make sure that you can use the fireplace gel cans so that you aren't going though a lot of natural resources. The cost of the natural resources will hold you back.
