By Stacey Reid
May 11, 2009
There is a lot of anticipation for the release of Lil Wayne new album Rebirth. He hinted back in October at the BET Hip Hop Awards that his next album will be different. Many people are hinting that Rebirth will be a Rock album. It was officially supposed to be released to hit the streets on April 7 but was delayed and rescheduled for June 9 and has been rescheduled again to be finally released on June 16. Already enduring 3 push back dates, it is rumored that there may be another pushback date beyond June 16 if things are not worked out.

A Lil Wayne album is notorious for reaching a million copies within one week. This is the reason for the hype and extra publicity around his upcoming album Rebirth. Everyone wants to see if he can create the magic again and produce another million copies. With the new release date set for June 16, his competition that week will be Letoya Lucketts album entitled Lady Love.

On January 27, the first single from the Lil Wayne new album Rebirth was released after a live internet broadcast of his concert in San Diego. The track is entitled Prom Queen which peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. He further released his second track on ITunes on March 17th called Hot Revolver which peaked at #33 on the Billboard charts.

The hype behind this Lil Wayne new album started with the hugely successful album he released in 2008 called Tha Carter III. That album sold more than a million copies within the first week of its release. No one had accomplished that feat since 2005. In 2005 50 Cent sold a million copies of his album entitled The Massacre within the first week. There had been a 3 year famine for a hugely successful album of this caliber of any artist from hip hop to country.

His first single from Tha Carter III album Lollipop became number one and his third single called Got Money peaked at number 13 on the Billboard 100. Tha Carter III ended up going double platinum . After a music artist achieves such success as Lil Wayne had achieved, he is heavily sought after to appear on other music artists songs. He has made appearances on music artists songs such as T-Pain, Usher, Akon, The Game, Mike Jones, and so on. We wait to see what the results of his next album will bring.
