Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses. Even though everyone has experienced unhappiness and feelings of being depressed, people suffering from this have many recurrent and habitual long-term symptoms, making them look in to life as something not worth living.

* Feels guilty without any reason at all
* Become indecisive.
* Suicidal
* Experiences melancholia
* Becomes mentally disturbed.
* Develops physical aches.
* "My life is passing by" kind of feelings.
* Behaves kind of antisocial.

Causes and Symptoms

Depression is caused by behavioral changes, hormonal imbalance, stress, metabolic changes etc. However, the following are the main causes and symptoms for a person to suffer from condition.

* Adolescence-exposed to sudden and inexplicable mood swings due to hormonal imbalance.
* Onset of menstruation
* Prolonged sadness and lethargy
* Changes in physical behavior
* Decrease in rational thought
* Feeling of restlessness
* Seasonal hormonal imbalances, strenuous physical activities,
* Uninterested in usual activities or hobbies
* Difficulty in sleeping, waking up too early, or sleeping too much.

Diagnoses:

If you have the above symptoms, do not hesitate in consulting a medical practitioner. The physician might ask you a couple of questions to assess and decide whether you actually suffering from depression and possibly might conduct tests to determine if your symptoms are a result of some other health issue.

The psychiatrist is a healthcare professional qualified to help you recover from it. Depression can be treated with the following methods:

2. Medication

3. Natural Treatment.

Treatment:

It might prove better to start your treatment of depression under a psychiatrist's care. Sometimes a team of mental health specialists composed of psychiatrist, psychologist, a psychiatric nurse specialist and even a social worker is necessary to treat depressed persons.
