Finding time and money for a vacation can be tricky these days, but there is no reason why travelers can't enjoy a fantastic getaway that is both exciting and affordable. At the Holladay House Bed and Breakfast, guests enjoy romantic accommodations in a historic gem, a delectable breakfast and a location that can't be beat.

Run by native Virginians, Sam and Sharon Elswick, the Holladay House is located along Main Street in historic downtown Orange, Virginia. Now in its 20th year as an inn, the Holladay House is within a short drive of dozens of exciting venues. James Madison's impressive home, Montpelier, is only three miles from the inn. Thomas Jefferson's and James Monroe's home are also close by, and all three homes offer tours and special events throughout the year. In addition, the area is full of Revolutionary and Civil War sites.

In addition to all the historic attractions, the area surrounding this Virginia inn offers plenty of other enticing options. Several local vineyards offer tours and tastings, and your innkeepers can provide complimentary passes to a half-dozen wineries. In addition, guests can walk to antique shops, boutiques and fine restaurants. There are several musical events throughout the year, ranging from opera to bluegrass. If you love the outdoors, biking, hiking, fishing and hot air balloon treks are among the many options.

The inn itself is a true historic gem, built in 1830, and one of the sites named on the Journey Through Hallowed Ground. This journey, created by the National Register of Historic Places, includes 65 historic sites along Virginia's scenic Route 15. Historic figures such as James Madison, Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis have passed by the historic inn's doors and Civil War soldiers skirmished along Main Street.

The innkeepers have lovingly restored their Virginia inn, keeping its historic charm and adding a dose of romance. The six guest rooms are furnished with antiques and all have either a queen-size or king-size bed topped with luxurious linens. Several rooms include a fireplace or double whirlpool tub. Amenities include fine, hypoallergenic bath products, cable TVs with a DVD player, CD players, wireless internet and much more. Locally produced coffee and tea are always available, and throughout the day, guests enjoy homemade goodies, such as freshly baked cookies or scones. Each morning, a two-course breakfast is served on fine china using fresh, local ingredients.

Customize your stay at the Holladay House with one of the innkeepers' special add-on packages. Your innkeepers can pack a picnic basket for you to take along on one of your day trips. An in-room massage can be arranged. The unique Babymoon Package is perfect for expectant parents and includes a fruit, cheese and chocolate tray with sparkling cider, a pregnancy massage, and a gift certificate for a local restaurant. Whatever options you choose, the innkeepers will make your stay at this Virginia bed and breakfast a memorable one.
