Britain's Got Talent More Popular then Eurovision
Eurovision used to be one of the main traditions here in Britain and throughout the would, the show which aired once a year, would be tuned into by the masses. But times change and viewing habits of the world also change, more and more people have been drawn into the reality bubble that has taken the world by storm.
The 2009 show of the Eurovision singing contest went head to head with Britain's Got Talent, which of course has been on our screens for a few weeks now. But when it came down to it Simon Cowell and the fellow judges triumphed over the Eurovision by pulling in more then 9 million viewers. While the Eurovision pulled in just over 7 million.
But not everything is doom and gloom for the Eurovision; I mean they were up against one of the most popular shows in the country, which has built up a fan base for 2009. There was no way that these people were going to miss their regular dose of the show. The Eurovision was actually up by just over seven hundred thousand viewers compared to last year, but you would have really expected it to draw a much bigger crowd in. I mean there has been so much promotion surrounding the show this year; the show was revamped and taken on by Graham Norton. The performer Jade was chosen out of thousands of auditionees in X factor like style.
The song was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and in all honesty was quite a good song, but in the end it just was not enough to take on Norway to take the crown. The UK did though finish in a reasonable position of number five. The block voting that has taken the fun out of the show seems to have gone and the show is now becoming a lot more like a singing competition. I mean the UK took it seriously this year and it paid off, people for along time have not been voting for the UK because they believed they were not taking it seriously, but as I mentioned before things changed and fingers crossed the UK will be able to take the crown for 2010.
That being said in the end it will take a lot more to knock Britain's Got Talent off of the top spot as the show is exactly what people are now willing too and want to watch. But the Eurovision has firmly turned things around.
