Being Safe While Having Fun
Winter is what everybody looks out for every year. I mean who does not love the snow and all the partying and celebrations? When there is fun, there is always a certain amount of risk involved.
The risk here refers to fire related issues. We all need the warmth from the fire logs to prevent ourselves from being frozen. So, how do we celebrate and welcome winter events safely?
When there is a celebration being prepared for, there is certainly a lot of work to do. These include cooking for all and ensuring that everybody is able to make it. When these are done concurrently, it could potentially lead to a fire break-out. So, it is always safe to have another person to help you prepare.
Another element of celebration and parties is the decorations. How could we do without fairy lights, candles and other decorations at Christmas? People would think we are crazy if we did just that. Instead of doing away with them to ensure fire safety, we could come up with preventative fire measures.
We should:
Keep decorations away from all flammable items as they can be burnt easily.
Always unplug fairy lights and other types of lights when they are not in use.
When these lights are over-heated, they may explode causing a fire break-out.
Not place candles near combustible items such as decorations.
Extinguish the fire on the candle when you are leaving the place to prevent a fire.
Place candles on candles holders so that they do not catch fire on combustible items.
Place candle holders away from the curtains as when curtains catch fire, they will spread rapidly and engulf the entire house within minutes.
No matter how careful we are, a fire break-out can always happen. If we cannot prevent it, we could always fight it. You should attempt to fight a fire only if the fire is small and not spreading. To fight a fire, you should be equipped with the basic fire-fighting equipment such as the fire extinguisher and the fire bucket filled with contents. If the fire is big, you should alert your local Fire and Rescue Service immediately and vacate everybody from the house.
Winter is the season to celebrate and enjoy oneself after slogging through the other seasons. Do not let a fire accident spoil the beauty of winter! Inculcate fire safety in your lifestyle.
