The Guide to World of Warcraft Mining
For most people who start playing WoW, they have no idea how to earn gold, no one to help them, and as a result their earnings really come down to trial and error. In this guide however you'll learn how you can start to fill your bank with gold.
When you begin playing World of Warcraft you are going to start in a "newbie" zone. In this zone there will be not crafting trainers. Its ok, you can't train in mining until level 5 any way. So hunker down and knock the first 5 or 6 levels out and earn some money so you can afford the training and the tools that you will need.
Once you are ready to leave the newbie area you will be ready to train your mining. Simply ask a guard where a mining trainer is and they will point you in the right direction. Find the trainer and purchase the skill then look nearby for a mining or blacksmithing supplier. You will purchase a mining pick from them. The mining pick is the only tool that you will ever need as a miner.
An easy trap to fall into is to select Blacksmithing, Engineering or Jewecrafting as your second profession. Before you make this mistake, I advise you to choose skinning. Skinning is preferable to Herbalism (the other good candidate) because the Herbalism profession requires that you track herbs. Only being able to track one thing at a time will limit your income potential - so pick Skinning.
Now that you are all trained up you are ready to head out into the wide world of Azeroth and put those skills to work and start earning some money. You will find copper the zone that you will be leveling in after the newbie zone. Keep your mineral tracking up and look for golden dots on your mini map. The dots are mineral deposits so head on over and start mining. Do not be discouraged if you fail at first. Just keep mining and when you have a couple of stacks of ore go to a forge and smelt them. This will bring up your mining skill and you will fail less often.
As you're now earning metal bars you can start to make gold in the auction house. To do this, go to the Auction House and see what others are selling the same items for, match their price.
Every zone follows these same principles. As you get to more advanced zones you'll mine higher quality metals. Repeat the process of smelting them in the forge and then selling them in the AH. From time to time you'll come across a gem when mining. Sell these in the AH as well for an extra little bonus.
If you chose skinning as your other profession you should also be making some good money with that as well. Combining these two income streams together is very effective. The basic methods mentioned above are a good way to start out mining and ensure you always have some gold.
