While the musical sounds lift our spirit, the honking of horns and screeching of tires make us irritated. Hence, the musical sounds are being used for therapeutic purpose. They are being used to relieve stress.
The secret of leading a less stressful life lies in the fact that one should be relax. As we all know, the cause of stress is both circumstantial as well as psychological. While we can't do much about the former, which is a bi-product of the fast paced life we lead, we can certainly do a lot to be less stressful. Listening to music is one the effective ways to attain a stress-free life.
Different types of music are being used to relieve the stress. They may be the sound of the musical instruments like guitar, cymbals, piano etc. used. But the use of the nature sounds is one of the most popular sounds used to alleviate stress. The babbling sound of a flowing stream, the sound of the sea waves or the rustling sound of the leaves of trees in the wind, all create the perfect ambiance for relaxation.
By listening to the nature sound one feels connected to Mother Earth. If you ever been in the jungle at night, by the side of a natural fall or on the bank of a flowing stream, then you must have heard the sounds of night creatures, the cascading sound of the falling water and the low humming motion of water. Such sounds take our consciousness to a different level - to a dreamlike state. They have a mesmerizing impact upon our body, mind and soul.
But unfortunately, we can not afford the luxury of going out to the countryside or jungle to be amidst nature regularly. Hence, in order to simulate the virtual effect of nature, we can use the nature sounds artificially at home. You can listen to the audio cassette or CDs with the help of a tape recorder, stereo or your own personal computer. They can also be listened to while working, driving or doing any other work. Many people use the nature sounds while working and studies have shown that by the output of some of them markedly increases by its use. Some other people use the nature sounds like the sound of falling rain before going to bed and fall asleep with the feeling as though the torrential rain is splashing on the window sill. When used during mediation, they have hypnotic effect on the body.
We all aspire to connect with nature at some time or other. Such feelings get accentuated when we are stressed due to our hectic and pressure filled lives. Listening to nature sounds is an effective and fulfilling way to achieve the tranquility and solace that we crave so much.
