MBA Application Tips and Tricks to Win Acceptance at a Top 10 MBA Program
Almost every single MBA application will feature a question asking your reasons for wanting to get an MBA while you are in this particular stage of your career. Some will ask you to tie these reasons not only into your background but also how seeking an MBA would be relevant to your goals in life.
Just so you will not freeze when you get your MBA application articles, here are some useful essay writing tips that will get you on your way:
* Do not use company jargon - As a promising student in the business world, you have more than likely spent a few years with a company that has its own in-house lingo. You have every right to give descriptions of the various aspects of your life as a professional. Make your language simple and straightforward so that it will be easily understood by most readers.
* Be interesting so that you will not bore your reader. - Admissions officers are saddled with reading hundreds of MBA application articles. Therefore, they must often skim through essays. Do not go on about abstract facts that have nothing to do with your essay. The admissions officer wants to be able to view you in a whole new light. You have to try to create intrigue so that you keep your reader interested.
* Use personal detail - If you want to write good MBA application articles you must make them concrete and grounded in detail about yourself. Relating a personal quality can be done through your own relevant experiences.
* Be concise and not wordy - Wordiness takes up valuable space and it confuses the reader about the ideas you are trying to get across. Use short sentences that are direct and that hit the nail on the head. It would be well to use active tense verbs and not different forms of "to be". Adverbs and adjectives can add spice to your essay.
* Address your weaknesses but do not dwell on them. - At some point in your MBA application articles you will have the chance to explain certain deficiencies in your record. By all means take advantage of this. You are going to want to spin the negatives into positives. You can do this by stressing that you are trying to improve. If your first-quarter grades were poor, touch on this briefly and then tell how you brought them up.
* Vary sentences and use transitions - For you to have a very good essay mix a variety of sentence lengths within your paragraphs. Transition should not be limited to such words like furthermore, nevertheless and consequently. Good transition will flow from a natural thought progression of your argument.
* Use active voice verbs. - Do not overly use passive voice in your writing. This will make your essay seem flat and uninteresting.
* Seek multiple opinions - When you have finished the rough draft of your essay, give it to family and friends to critique. The more people who read it, the better the finished product should be. Be aware of such things as your essay should have one central theme, your introduction should engage the reader and the conclusion should provide closure. If any parts of your essay were unclear, make note of that so you can edit your first draft.
* Stay focused - Try not to turn your essay into an autobiography. Make sure that there is cohesion in it so that it is a well-organized thought. Your sentences should exist only to support a central theme.
