Your kitchen is probably one of the biggest investments in your home, and when you've had it installed your likely to be stuck with it for a decade, minimum.

The kitchen is usually the hub of the home where you can spend a lot of time, so you want it to look fresh, new and up-to-date. So here are a few tips on what you can do to give your kitchen a makeover without spending lots of money.

Change fabrics- If you're lucky enough to have a table or seating in your kitchen then it's easy to change the look by adding or changing fabrics.

It might be a transformation of cushion covers, a new blind or table cloth, or perhaps just an apron hanging on the back of the door. Go for a new colour such as on trend yellow and green which will give your kitchen the air of being fashionable. Or introduce a pattern for a bit of interest, go bold to max the impact.

Table arrangement- Dressing up your table is a great way to give your kitchen character and create a centerpiece. Paper napkins are a cheap and easily changeable way to inject something different.

With so much choice out there, you can create as many looks as you want for your kitchen. If you're having people over for dinner then even designing name places from bright post it notes adds colour to your table.

Create a display- Why not buy a pretty coloured vase to display an array of flowers which can be changed regularly to fit your mood. If you don't want to fork out for new flowers all the time, why not fill the vase with treasured objects, coloured beads or even make it into a candle display. Why not add a pot of herbs to your kitchen, it will make it smell wonderful, create a lovely feature and be very useful when cooking!

Big kitchen, small tricks- Got a small kitchen and want to make it feel bigger? Put up a mirror on the largest free wall space you have. An oversized clock can deceive your eye making the space in fact feel bigger, and doubles up as timer for cooking! Even more useful, how about a pin board for all the loose paperwork and pictures taking up room elsewhere. You can get really beautiful fabric ones that add a bit of style to your kitchen.

Spring clean- People are good at this, but usually forget about their kitchens (probably because it will take the longest!). Get rid of all your washing brushes and cloths and restock your cleaning cupboards with new ones, they'll do the job better and will make your kitchen feel brand new! You'll find just keeping your taps and sink sparkling clean will also help.

Tidy up- Get rid of kitchen equipment you haven't used in the last five years, recycle it or give it away. You'll create more space in your cupboard and be able to store more away. This means your kitchen surfaces will be clear, giving a fresh minimalist look, or make room for decorative items. But be careful not to let this be an excuse to collect lots more clutter!

Shuffle things around- If you've got a display cabinet in your kitchen, exposed shelves or even cupboards with clear fronts, then simply moving things around will create a different look. Get rid of that china you've had for far to long just collecting dust, and swap it with decorative items or cookery books.
