GUI Scripting Improves Company Efficiency

Businesses looking for ways to optimize company processes are turning to GUI scripting applications. These software tools automate repetitive actions on a computer such as opening programs, selecting from menus, and clicking icons. Anything done with a keyboard or mouse can be automated with GUI scripting.

Reduce Training And Documentation Needs

The bulk of new employee training involves teaching all the steps necessary to complete typical tasks in the worker's job description. Most of these individual steps are tedious and repetitive and that very aspect makes them hard to teach. Remembering to perform each step in the proper order requires doing the tasks over and over, tying up a trainer's time in the process.

When the mundane aspects of a task are automated with GUI scripting, less training is required. Tasks with dozens of steps are now reduced to a single action. Employees learn the skills of the job more quickly so they are productive workers much sooner. Trainers are freed up for other duties in a fraction of the time.

Documentation is simpler with GUI scripting. Processes are described more easily when they have fewer steps. As with training, the less time spent writing how-to guides, the more time can be spent doing the actual work.

Improve Accuracy

One drawback to tedious tasks is they are prone to error. After doing the same thing dozens, hundreds, or thousands of times, it's hard to hold the employee's attention. Their minds wander and errors start to happen. Steps are missed or done in the wrong order. This can soon lead to critical errors and a moment's inattention can destroy days of work.

Computers don't get bored. With GUI scripting, computers can take a task of a thousand steps and repeat it a million times. Every step will be completed correctly and in the exact order required. When done right the first time, a step doesn't have to be repeated again. With a source of errors eliminated, the need for less auditing frees up still more time.

Lightning Speed

Accuracy and speed are normally opposite ends of a spectrum. If managers tell workers to increase speed, mistakes happen. If they demand perfection, the work is done very slowly. GUI scripting is a solution that brings both accuracy and speed.

Computers can act on commands much faster than a human can. We go about things slowly as we read data on the screen. Our brain processes it and tells us what to do next. We move our hand over the mouse to select the next action and so on. In the time a human operator can do one command, the GUI scripting process has completed dozens or hundreds. Processes that took hours to do manually can be done in seconds by computers. Companies can substantially increase productivity without increasing staff.

Less training, more accuracy, and greater speed all lead to a competitive edge that will elevate a company well over its competitors.
