Magic Jack Problems
Magic Jack phone is a controversial addition to voip phones. It's being talked about a lot on the internet because of its cheap price and terrible customer service. If you search on the web, it seems like everyone and their dog are complaining about how this product doesn't work.
You won't hear anything very often from satisfied users because they are doing other things, like making phone calls, instead of trying to find out how to make this phone service work. From time to time though a satisfied user will post a positive comment about the service.
If it works for you, the price can't be beat, less than $40 for the usb device that includes a year's worth of free local and long distance calling within the United States and Canada. You can even call for free internationally if you buy a Magic Jack and send it to whoever you call in another country. Then that person can call anyone in the United States for free also with their high speed internet connection.
Most problems with this device are caused by the users computer or internet connection, not the Magic Jack itself. Computers are as different as people and it may take quite a bit of troubleshooting to track down the problem that is causing the device not to work. An a/c powered usb hub is one of the first things to try to fix your problem.
Computers can have so many different programs on them and some of these programs may conflict with the performance of your Magic Jack device. Try the device on other computers to find out if it is the fault of the product or the computer.
The bad part about that is getting someone in the customer service area of the company to be able to actually help you. A phone number for technical support is not offered. Many complain about the support using people that are not knowledgeable about trouble-shooting any issues.
You may return the device if it is found to be defective. This usually is after hours of discussion and troubleshooting by the support crew of the company. You may want to do some testing on your own before contacting the company so that you know it isn't the fault of your computer system or internet connection.
Downloads are available from the company website to help your device work more efficiently for you. Automatic upgrades usually occur when there are new area codes and phone numbers offered.
