So, Your Ready To Buy A Digital Camera?
Finding the best possible digital camera isn't always such an easy task. It's difficult because each buyer will want something different from his digital camera. Also, the manufacturers have launched a lot of digital cameras and they market them through a lot of technical talk, that confuses the consumers. You need to learn about a number of features to understand what camera is good and which should be avoided. All buyers want is to buy a digital camera without too much hassle.
The problem isn't as hard as it seems though. If you are searching for a professional digital camera, it might still be difficult, but if you want something simple and easy to use, finding it is much easier. As we want to keep this as simple as possible we will avoid the professional cameras for this article.
Being a waterproof camera shouldn't just mean you can hold the camera underwater, and it won't leak. It still needs to take good pictures. While the 790SW can be held underwater (up to 33 feet according to Olympus), the pictures it takes are not so great. In fact, if you do take it underwater, plan on taking a lot of pictures. Most will turn out quite distorted and blurry, but the more pictures you take the better your chances of getting a few good ones. In addition, the LCD is pretty much unusable underwater, as it's just too hard to see. You'll have to just point, click and hope for the best.
Bigger LCD's are a big sales point these days with manufacturers and sales staff alike. In this case size is nice, but there are other things to consider as well. LCD resolution is important to consider as well. It allows you to view the LCD from off center, and ensures that likelihood that you'll be able to view your screen in bright sunlight.
If you want to take the jump from a digital camera to something more professional, you will also need to learn how to shoot without using the auto settings. You can use a SLR of entry level that is priced at a low level and allows even beginners to learn fast how to use them. Some of the cameras that are at the entry level and make the job easy for beginners are the Olympus Evolt E510, Nikon D40 and Canon XTi Digital Rebel. These cameras come with many features that allow for easy point and shoot.
Finally, the most important thing you can do when trying to decide which digital camera I should buy is... hold one. Go to your local camera or favorite big box electronics store and test drive a few models. Take a few pictures around the store. Look for some shadowing areas, and take pictures of those. If they'll let you, try the camera outside to see how the LCD looks. Ask as many questions as you can, and just get a good feel for the camera. When the pictures look good to you, and the camera feels right in your hands, you'll know you've found a winner.
