Threat Of Addiction Among Students Away From Home

Aug 17, 2007
The first lesson of discipline begins at home. The most mischievous kid also behaves like a good boy when at home. This is a very common child psychology. A person feels most secured when stays with his family in a close bonding and sharing.

The structure of family itself is in such a well-defined pattern that doing something wrong by staying in that atmosphere is quite not possible. Thus young boys and girls who stay in the homely environment have less chance to get distracted into a wrong track. Away from home in the hostel setup the probabilities of getting involved in ill activities is more. Researches have shown that in a well-structured family there are hardly any drug addicts but the same person might become addicted to illicit drugs in a hostel setup.

Routes to indiscipline

It's not pointing towards the hostel administration that why a student takes up a wrong route under their supervision. Rather you must look at the situation from a different perspective. A school or a university hostel cannot take individual care of each and every student. Every rule is made according to an average setup. And each student is supposed to adhere that rule. Some notorious fellows are always there to spoil the environment. The impact falls on many. And since the inherent discipline of home is missing over here the tendency to break out of the set rules become dominant and young children follow a wrong road.

Control over the threat

While getting your kid admitted to a school with hostel facilities you must find out certain things before taking the final decision. The reputation of the institute and the surroundings hold a great importance because the roots of nuisance are present within the vicinity. A detailed record of history must be taken. It is also the responsibility of the parents to find out the record of the roommate your ward will have to stay with. The hostel environment should be judged and then you can come to the conclusion that the hostel is a safe place for your kid's admission.

Well the risk always remains. Even at home's well-disciplined environment your child can get spoiled. But you must take precautions as much as possible. But you can't stop your child's studies from a good institute.

In spite of all these if your child becomes a drug addict in the hostel setup please immediately take him/her to a rehab center for the right type of treatment. At the initial stage the possibility of getting completely well in a short frame of time is more.
