D.C. United Tickets- Coaching Staff Working Hard for Wins
Early in the 2009 season, D.C. United has been on the warpath, showing themselves as a dominant team in the league. After their May 9th game against Toronto FC, D.C. United is on the top of the Eastern Division with a record of 3-1-5. Their only loss has come at the hands of Real Salt Lake, but they have topped the New York Red Bulls, FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo. Two of those wins were shutouts. The success of their season so far has led to many players being recognized for their efforts, but it has much to do with the work of the coaches during the games and in preparation. Each of the coaches brings their unique talent to the table, and fans can appreciate their work more when they get DC United tickets online.
Tom Soehn, Head Coach: Tom Soehn is no stranger to the MLS or professional soccer, and his influence is valued on the United team. His professional career in the United States began in 1988 as a defender. That year, he was with the Wichita Wings in the MISL. He stayed there through the 1992 season, then moving to the Denver Thunder of the NPSL in 1992 and 1999. Soehn returned to the Wings from 1993 to 1996. He also played with the Las Vegas Dustdevils in the CISL and the Colorado Foxes in the APSL.
He started playing with the Dallas Burn in 1996, leading them to a U.S. Open Cup champion in 1997. He stayed for another season before playing for the Chicago Fire in 1998. He won two U.S. Open Cups with the Fire in 1998 and 2000 along with an MLS Cup championship in 1998. He started his coaching career as an assistant with the Chicago Fire in 2001 and stayed there until 2003. In 2004, he started coaching with D.C. United as an assistant and was elevated to the head coaching position in 2006.
Chad Ashton, Assistant Coach: Ashton was already a star in high school, being named the Colorado High School Player of the Year in 1986. After high school, he came to the University of North Carolina and played midfielder there. He was their all-time leader in assists and still holds that record. He played in the American Professional Soccer League with the Colorado Foxes in the 1990s with Soehn before becoming the head men's soccer coach at the University of Denver. He started with the United as an assistant in 2007.
Mark Simpson, Assistant Coach: Simpson adds his experience as a goalkeeper to the coaching staff. He played in the NPSL with the Cincinnati Silverbacks before beginning his career with D.C. United in 1996. He played until 2001, playing in three MLS Cup as well as many other championship games. In 2002, he was the goalkeeper coach for the United. The next year, he as an assistant coach with USL's Virginia Beach Mariners. He was back as an assistant with the United under Peter Nowak and has since grown in responsibility.
