Do It Yourself Fourth Of July Windsock

This project is a very simple craft to make that can be displayed on your front porch once finished. It is a very inexpensive way to demonstrate your patriotic pride. This craft is also very versatile and can be created for any occasion whether it is a holiday, season, birthday, or anniversary. It can be given as a gift to anyone and the receiver of this gift will enjoy displaying it for everyone to see.

The materials you will need for this craft are scissors, glue, four shoestrings, a small foam wreath, and red, white, and blue streamers. All of these items can be found at your local party store and are fairly inexpensive. You will also need a clean and dry work area to complete your craft.

Begin by poking four holes into your foam wreath evenly, one on the top side, one on the bottom side, and one on each side. Tie a knot at one end of each shoestring and thread one shoestring through each hole. Once you have threaded the four shoestrings through the holes in the foam wreath you will want to tie the ends of the four shoestrings together.

Next, begin measuring out the red, white, and blue streamers so that they are all the same length and cut enough pieces to cover the foam wreath entirely. Take one end of the red streamer and wrap it around one section of the foam wreath, and glue it in place. Continue this process with the white and blue streamers until the entire wreath is covered. Once the glue has dried completely your windsock is finished and ready to be hung on display. If you want to create a fancier windsock you could fray the ends of each streamer.

Another way of creating this craft is to use construction paper instead of a foam wreath and streamers. First, roll your construction paper into a tube and staple or glue it together. Then, using a hole punch you would create four holes around the top of the tube and thread the four shoestrings as above. Next, using red, white, and blue strips of construction paper, glue them all the way around the end of the tube.

Whichever method you choose to use the end result is the same. You are left with a beautiful patriotic windsock to hang on display. This windsock is very versatile and can be created for any occasion whether it is for a birthday, Christmas or other holiday, or seasonal. Whoever you choose to give it to as a gift will be proud to hang it on display and tell their friends that you created it for them.
