Maintain The All Important Interview Communications Skills
Many people fail to provide a good interview due to proper communication skills during the interview. It is often not what was said but the body language during the interview that causes people not be considered for the job. To learn the right skills for interviewing means to learn what to do and how to present you during the interview.
To begin making a good impression in the interview make eye contact with the interviewing party. Avoid looking away from the person since they need to know you are paying attention to them. Eye contact is a sure sign you are listening as well as showing respect for them taking the time to talk to you.
Do not assume you know how to make good eye contact. Learn to practice before the interview by practicing eye contact on your friends. Ask a good friend to help you with this technique. Tell the friend what you are trying to accomplish and they will offer assistance. The practice will help you gain confidence to make eye contact during the interview.
Think about your facial expressions during the interview. Be alert and smile during the interview. The lack of expression is a sign of someone not understanding or not being interested in the subject discussed. Learn to control your facial expressions to show you are interested and alert to the situation of the interview. Show you are interesting by smiling and responding to the comments that are said during the interview.
Employers avoid people that do not smile or acknowledge them when they speak. Take the time to smile as an acknowledgement to the interviewer. When they make a statement respond in a manner to let them know you heard them and understand what they are saying. Continue with the eye contact and smile.
Think about your posture during the interview. Do not be stiff or sit back in the chair. Sit up straight but in a relaxed fashion. You appear too rigid and the interviewer will sense you are uncomfortable which also says you have a hard time relaxing. This is not a good sign at all. Sit in the front of the chair with your legs touching the chair. You can cross your legs slightly but appear too relaxed. This is an interview not a common chat session with a long time friend so keep it professional and business like during the interview.
Limit gestures with the hands, feet, and head. This is distracting and offensive. Do not talk with your hands since the interviewer will be watching your hands and not concentrating on the subject you are discussing. Watch tossing your head around because that is considered an irritating habit. It can cause you to lose respect and the possible job. Do not swing your leg or feet. This too is irritating and distractive. Try to keep your feet still and remain in one place. It is all right to shift in the chair but keep that to a minimal also.
Provide ample space between you and the interviewer. Be prepared if the interview does remain close and do not back away. Some people are more comfortable at close range but the general respectful space is thirty to forty inches from the other person. This is crucial for the people that get intimidated so show respect and keep your distance.
Make the interview good by smiling, keeping eye contact, limiting gestures, and provide ample space. The interviewer will notice the respect and be please as well as attracted to you as a potential employee
