Used Car Donation - Where Do You Begin?
The procedures for donated cars are quite straightforward. First you must have a vehicle that you are don't use anymore. Secondly you must be prepared to donate it. Finally there are some questions you need to ask before attempting to donate the car.
Is the vehicle in good condition? The last thing you want to have happen is give a decaying vehicle to a group the helps people in need. They may be irate if it falls apart mid trip. You also do not want to donate a vehicle if it needs extensive maintenance, or costly repairs.
Who needs the car the most? This isn't a simple question to answer to yourself, but essential if you want your donation to do the most good. Why should I even bother? Because there are a lot of disadvantaged folk who could use a reliable vehicle. Besides, if you have one you no longer use, its just gathering rust.
Which charity organization should I donate the car to? This is undoubtedly the most difficult question you have to ask. There are many charity groups that could use an operating car. Everyone from youth groups to outreach programs. If you feel real saintly you could give it to one of those charity groups that's fighting global hunger, or another global disaster.
You also have the option of donating to a needy person rather than a charity organization. There is no shortage of students who could use a reliable car or truck. One of the sad signs of the times we live in is there are a growing number of people losing their jobs. They could certainly use a car to look for work further afield.
University students can always use a reliable car if they do not have one of their own. Or you could give it to a family member in need. Barring any of these you can also give it to a homeless person, whole families can live out of car if they have to.
Now, if by some chance donating out of the milk of human kindness doesn't motivate you, there are rewards. Some charities will give you cash in the hand. Government programs might also give you cash, or a tax credit. However giving out of the milk of human kindness and not looking for, or taking any reward for the donation can make you feel good.
The last option to consider is your hometown. Donating a vehicle to them can save them a lot of money. It also gives you a sense of giving something to their community. Your neighbors will like you better if you appear to love your community.
I'm sure you now have quite a list of worthy groups that you can donate your vehicle to. Remember to ensure the vehicle is in a roadworthy condition, and that you are happy with your ultimate decision of recipient. It may not be such a big deal to you, but the effect it has at the other end of the equation will have a massive impact.
