The Pros And Cons Of Book Clubs

By John McMillan
Jun 16, 2009
A book club is also called a book sales club, where books are sold and bought based on subscriptions. In a book club, the members agree to receive books by mail, where they pay for books as they receive them.

If you love to read, joining a book club may be a convenient option for you. It can also be a great gift idea. You can join a book club with your interests, such as romance, mystery, politics, or kids books just to name a few.

One of the reasons many people join book clubs is because of the convenience that it provides. You don't have to take a lot of time out of an already busy schedule to drive to the store and try to select something that would interest you. If you've joined a book club that carries the type of books you are interested in, you can just choose to go with their recommendations, which include many award winning books.

If you don't want the book, simply let the book club know before their deadline date. You can usually opt out of books you don't want online.

Books clubs usually offer incentives when you join their club. They may offer huge discounts or free books. Additionally, you will get up to date information as well as book reviews on the latest books.

The disadvantage with book clubs is that shipping can be expensive, as you will have to pay shipping costs on each book that is sent. Moreover, in some book clubs, you may end up paying for books you don't want if you forget to send your reply form in on time.

Be sure to read the membership requirements before joining. Most book clubs require that you buy a minimum number of books, or you may lose your club membership.

Overall, a book lover will enjoy being a member of a book club. You just have to ensure that you only buy books that you need and will read.
