Movie Review Of Elizabeth In High Definition
"Elizabeth" filmed in 1998 was a huge success, and cemented itself as part of the movement that historical dramas have gained in this last decade. "Elizabeth: The Golden Age," starring the same leading lady, was a sensible follow up to the first film. You cannot see this movie without high definition DVD in your home theater.
After having settled that she is the true Queen of England as well as bringing peace to the country, Queen Elizabeth has bigger fish to fry. The Catholic population of her country remains at odds with her and the King of Spain declares holy war on her country and her rule.
The costuming and light in this film is spectacular, and a higher grade television as well as all relevant high definition equipment is almost required for this film. We watch Elizabeth, in startlingly lavish gowns, weigh the importance of country and politics. There is some romance here as Queen Elizabeth meets Sir Walter Raleigh and finds that she has a big of a secret passion for him.
Universal is putting out this movie in a VC-1 encoded 1080p transfer on this high definition DVD, and you will certainly not be disappointed. The shots of the royal court in all daily activities and opulence as well as candid shots of Elizabeth proves that this technology can certainly keep up with the most daring cinematography.
There is also a Dolby Digital TrueHD track, that impresses even the most skeptical of this technology. There is no distortion of picture or sound here and the movie as well as all the special features make use of every inch of quality.
There is a feature, "The Reign Continues" which has the cast of the movie discussing their parts as well as the effect their character had on the very real story this movie portrays. The discussion goes from fashion to politics and everywhere in between.
"Inside Elizabeth's World" peers inside the private life of Elizabeth as Hollywood delivers it, while "Towers, Courts and Cathedrals" shows the historical locations where these events actually happened.
In "Commanding The Winds: Creating the Armada" you get to see how they created fleets of Spanish ships and all the little movie tricks they used to make it come to life.
With all this content, it is no wonder why they shot this in the best possible format. It will certainly be worth the few extra dollars when you pick up the extended version on high definition DVD for your home theater.
