NFL Tickets - NFC East Preview

By Brent Warnken
Jun 17, 2009
New York Giants: The Giants are coming off a solid regular season and disappointing playoffs, but they're still one of the favorites in the NFC in 2009. The team did well to re-up bruising running back Brandon Jacobs, whose incredible power running style punishes defenders and sells NFL tickets. The team parted ways with troubled wide receiver Plaxico Burress following his gun-related incident in a New York City nightclub, leaving the club with some question marks at the position. The team has several young, talented receivers, including rookie Hakeem Nicks, whom they selected in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Nicks is a bigger receiver with great hands and should be able to come in and contribute right away, while the club will look to guys like Steve Smith and Mario Manningham to step up and fill major roles. Eli Manning has shown the type of passer he can be when he's confident in his receivers, but he needs these youngsters to perform on the field. The Giants will be getting Osi Umenyiora back after he missed all of the 2008 season with an injury, which should bolster the team's already devastating pass rush. The Giants should be one of the best teams in the conference and make a run at the NFC title.

Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles are fresh off yet another appearance in the NFC Championship Game, despite barely making the postseason. Donovan McNabb seems to have won back the confidence of the fans and coaching staff and, for the first time in his career, has some real weapons at his disposal on the outside. With a receiving corps that includes Kevin Curtis, Reggie Brown, DeSean Jackson and rookie Jeremy Maclin, McNabb could have his best season yet.

Brian Westbrook underwent offseason surgery, but should be ready in time for the start of the regular season, though he may not be fully in game shape. The team drafted running back LeSean McCoy in an effort to ease Westbrook's duties and it's already looking like a smart move. The additions of the two aforementioned rookies and offensive tackle Jason Peters should definitely bolster this team's attack and could make them a contender to return to the conference title game.

Dallas Cowboys: It looks as though the Cowboys are going to be more of a football team than a soap opera now that Terrell Owens is gone. The biggest priority on offense will be replacing Owens' production, and the bulk of that responsibility will fall on the shoulders of Roy Williams. Williams says he's ready to step up and be a dynamic playmaker for the Cowboys, and if he does, this team could potentially make some significant waves in the division and the conference. A major weapon the Cowboys should be excited to unleash is running back Felix Jones, who shined early last season but had his rookie campaign cut short by an injury. He and Marion Barber should form one of the most dangerous backfield duos in the league.

Washington Redskins: The Redskins were not shy in their desire to obtain a quarterback this offseason, and their failure to do so could make the situation with current signal-caller Jason Campbell a bit contentious. The team also needs one of the receivers they drafted last season to step up and make a significant contribution, whether it's Malcolm Floyd or Devin Thomas. The team could wind up in last place in this ultra-competitive division, though, unless improvements are made on the offensive end.
