NFL Tickets - AFC East Preview

By Brent Warnken

New England Patriots: How many teams in this league could win 11 games without their best player, or without their quarterback, or without a guy who was both? Well, that's exactly what the Patriots did last season without Tom Brady. Brady's recovery from the knee injury he suffered in the team's first game last season is ahead of schedule and the future Hall-of-Famer should be under center for opening day.

I wouldn't necessarily expect to see the record-setting offense that helped the Patriots go 16-0 in the regular season two years ago, but the offensive unit should be more dangerous than they were last season with Matt Cassel at the helm, not to say they were at all bad. If this offense picks up where it left off the last time Brady was healthy, this is certainly a team that will sell a ton of NFL tickets over the course of the season, both at home and on the road. Bill Belechick always finds a way to get the job done on defense, which is why this franchise is so consistently successful.

Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins were the feel-good story of the league last season as they bounced back from a 1-15 season in 2007 to finish 11-5 last year and win the division. They're not the favorite to win the division this season, but the playoffs are certainly not out of the question. Chad Pennington is one of the smartest quarterbacks in the league and he always seems to find a way to win games. I'd also expect to see an even better Ronnie Brown in 2009 now that he's two years removed from his knee injury. Brown has the talent to be a top-tier back and could show people that this season. The defense is going to improve as Tony Sporano and Bill Parcells get more and more of their own guys on the roster. The team will likely make the transition to one of their young quarterbacks, either Chad Henne or Pat White, after this season.

Buffalo Bills: The Bills made a big splash this offseason when they signed Terrell Owens and it remains to be seen if it was a good move or not. Owens could fill the team's need for a big receiver and red zone threat, or he could tear the locker room apart and ruin Trent Edwards. I'd say it's more likely that he helps the team a lot on the field and actually keeps quiet off it for the most part. The Bills have a lot of good, young players that are coming along nicely and this could be the season in which the team makes the jump.

New York Jets: The Jets made headlines on draft day when they traded up to select USC quarterback Mark Sanchez. Sanchez has since become the golden boy of the Big Apple, drawing comparisons to Joe Namath for his charisma and likability. Sanchez has a chance to start from day one, as new head coach Rex Ryan just came from a team that saw a rookie quarterback take them to the AFC title game. The team needs help at receiver and Ryan will need time to fine tune his defense, but the Jets looks to be headed in the right direction.
