Three Simple Guidelines To Starting A Sports Blog
Are you thinking about starting a sports blog? Or maybe you've already set up an account at a blog site complete with a catchy name? Thinking of a good name can be a real challenge but the work is just beginning for you if you are serious about creating a successful sports blog. Read on for some basic guidelines that can help you make it in the blogosphere.
First, try to create a new post every day. Since you are just starting out, a new post daily is the best way for readers who just came across your blog to see what they can expect from you and whether they would want to keep coming back to your site. If you post just three times a week, for instance, then a reader would think there isn't much to get from your site unless you have really impressive writing skills and humor that readers would get hooked on your blog with just a couple of posts. The great thing is there are a lot of things you can write about from sports news to your own opinions on recent games.
Second, while it is important to keep your blog fresh and updated, it is more important to write only about what you're really interested in. How can you expect other people to like what you wrote about when you yourself don't? Make sense, right? So, if you ever find yourself preparing to write about a topic for the pure reason that your blog needs a new post, do yourself a favor and stop. As with many other things in life, more is not necessarily better when it comes to blogging.
A dedicated blogger averages five quality posts a week, meaning real creative, original content. That is a good, realistic number that you can aim for instead of trying to churn out posts that have no real value. It is better that you have 5 entertaining and informative posts a week rather than 12 posts that are just so-so in quality.
Lastly, network your blog. A large number of sports blogs are actually personal fan blogs like Sherman Mazur and BronxBloggers that are dedicated to the Yankees or personal blogs that talk about the bloggers other interests in addition to their favorite sports like A Touch of Melancholy and HotCornerHasBeen.
Many owners of such blogs spend lots of time writing new posts and prettying up their sites but do not want to make a real effort to draw traffic. Their usual argument is they only blog for themselves and don't really care if anybody gets to read their blog. If that were really the case, then they should have just kept a private diary instead. If you're one of these folks, the fact that you are writing and publishing content online means you want others to read what you have to say. Maybe the level of desire differs from blogger to blogger but the truth is you want to be heard and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that so why pretend otherwise? It's time to get out there and start networking. When you start getting more readers, you'll wonder why you ever needed convincing.
