New York Giants Tickets- A Healthier Jacobs

By Brent Warnken
Jun 18, 2009
When you look at the numbers, a healthy Brandon Jacobs at running back has a dramatic impact on the New York Giants offense (almost an 11-point-per-game difference). The 6-foot-4, 264-pound Jacobs took over as the Giants running back after Tiki Barber retired. The Giants' offensive production has been drastically different when Jacobs plays compared to when he does not; in the twenty-plus games, the team has averaged 26.9 points per game. In the eight games he has missed, New York has only been able to muster 19.4 points per game. That is a difference of 7.5 points per game. The defense has also been affected when the running back is out of the lineup. Get New York Giants tickets and see Jacobs rush for a touchdown.

When Jacobs laced up for those 24 games, New York's defense gave up 19.3 points per game. However, when the big man was absent, the defense allowed 22.6 points per game. So for the past two seasons, the running back's presence has been worth an amazing 10.8 points per game. The Giants want a healthier Jacobs back in the lineup as soon as possible, especially since they lost top backup Derrick Ward to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency. The running back has somebody stretch every muscle in his body so he can be flexible during game time. In 2008, the 6-foot-4 back, led the team with 1,089 yards.

He is now trying to make himself light on his feet so tacklers can miss him while he runs away. A healthier Jacobs, who has had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, in the lineup means cornerbacks, safeties, and linebackers will dread trying to tackle the big fellow. New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis said Brandon is a whole lot of man on the field. The Jets gave up 100 yards to Brandon in 2007. Revis added that he looks like a defensive lineman running the ball. Giants general manager Jerry Reese has already announced that Brandon will get some more carries. He will get 300 carries this season compared to the 219 he had last season and 202 in 2007.

In 2008, Brandon missed three games late in the season due to a knee injury. The Giants had a slump without their top running back in the game. New York lost three of their four regular-season games and were ousted in the divisional round of the playoffs by the Philadelphia Eagles. The running back's goal is to play in 16 games while staying healthy. Brandon believes if New York has a good offensive line and good offensive play calling, he can lead the league. When asked if he thinks he could gain 2,000 yards in a season, the running back said no, it was a lot of real estate. But he wants New York to give him more chances on third down, and throw him the ball when he emerged from the backfield. Brandon hopes to refine his footwork and get quicker in smaller paces. Good luck to all of the guys trying to tackle him this season.
