Find the Richness in Your Life By How You Make Your Mark on the World

By Joanna Lindenbaum

How often do you find yourself operating from a place of scarcity. The internal voice of scarcity sounds something like this; "There isn't enough for me. I don't have enough. Everyone else gets or accomplishes things and I don't. I'll never have enough."?

"Scarcity Thinking" is a sure-fire way to keep us stuck. When we feel like we don't have enough (or that we aren't enough), we waste precious energy and time focusing on and worrying about what we lack. When we focus on the lack in our lives, we are torpedoed into more lack and more scarcity.

However, when we focus on our gifts, our strengths, our loving relationships, and all that we do have, we attract more abundance, more richness, more fullness. If we can make it a practice to take stock of all that we are and all that we do have, we can harness those things as resources and tools to help us move forward happily and successfully in our lives.

Take Action!
Become more aware of the abundance in your life, and in doing so attract even MORE abundance into your life!

1. Make a list of EVERYTHING you have: This list can include (but is not limited to) friendships, close family relationships, skills, strengths, cherished pets, important life experiences and lessons, treasured possessions, educational or professional accomplishments, good habits. Remember to include on this list those essentials that we so easily forget: roof above our heads, heat, healthy food to eat, beautiful view out our window, health.

2. Review your abundance list and REALLY TAKE IT IN: Give yourself a few moments to really absorb everything that you have, acknowledge your riches, and give thanks for everything in your life.

3. Pick one item on your list that is an untapped resource for you: Choose one thing on your list that you could be using to your advantage, but don't. It might be a skill or a certain professional relationship or a valuable piece of furniture that you could sell.

How can this resource bring even more abundance into your life?

How you make your mark on the world:

It's time to start taking care of each other and our planet. And, it's time for us to acknowledge the impact we have on the world.

In Harold Kushner's book Living a Life That Matters, the author thoughtfully explores the questions -
How can we life a life where we know we are contributing to the wellbeing of the world?

How can we really feel like we matter (to ourselves and to others)?

(I'd say these questions apply especially to women in the Soulful Coaching for Busy Women community who are working to contribute and make the world a better place!)

Kushner's answer is beautifully simple: It is not the measure of our bank accounts, job titles, or business status that make our lives "matter", but rather, it is the quality of our friendships, our relationships with others, our kindness, and how we love. Through our relationships, we make our marks on the world and have the power to change our own lives and the lives of others for the better.

I've noticed that we often get so caught up in what we think we "need to achieve" and bring to the world that we forget that our presence, our gifts, and our skills matter greatly in our homes, in our families, and in our communities.

Those of us that yearn to bring healing and change to the world are probably already doing it on a daily basis - through supporting a friend, through a helpful suggestion to a colleague, through smiling at a stranger on the street, through a short article we've written.

You matter to the world, and nearly everything you do on a daily basis helps you make your mark and contribute to the world!!!!

Take Action!

My coach's invitation to you is to notice and acknowledge all the ways that you are already achieving and contributing. This will help you feel more satisfied, accomplished, and ready to tackle your next big goal.

1. Make a list of all the people you have touched in your life, all the people whose lives are happier, healthier, fuller because of you - whether through direct contact or by way of something you've done.

2. Make a short note of how their lives are different because of you.

3. Take a moment and take in the significance of your life as is, and the mark you've already made on the world.
