Why Companies Will Pay You For Your Opinion

Aug 17, 2007
Surveys, focus groups and customer questionnaires are a vital part of the market research process. Many companies and businesses rely on customer surveys to answer a whole series of important questions. Of course, people are busy in today's world so It's often much easier and faster to offer paid surveys rather than depend on free surveys.

While a fair amount of customer preference information can be obtained by using free surveys, better quality information is produced by paid survey participants. That's why there are so many major corporations offering good money for consumer opinion information.

Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. You are constantly looking for new products and services to sell to your customers. Most or this time is requires a significant investment to roll out a new product line or a new service. You need to hire new employees, buy new equipment and create a whole new marketing campaign.

The expense of a new product roll out, especially for a national corporation, can be enormous. So you can be sure the owners and managers of these businesses don't want to shell out that kind of money without some assurances that they will get a good return on their investment.

That's where market research comes in. In fact, market research is an industry unto itself. It's that important. Company owners and managers are willing, even eager, to pay good money for honest, accurate and timely information about your buying habits, consumer tastes and problems you are looking for a solution to.

The more accurate the information the more value it has. Consider for a moment how much it would be worth to know exactly what your customer was looking for when they browsed through your store, website or catalog.

Not only would this information give you the insight to create the exact product that your customer was looking for, you would also know the precise marketing approach to take to maximize your sales and revenue. Just think of how much money that could be worth in lifetime sales of a product line.

Now consider the flip side. Far too many business owners and managers come up with a 'great' idea that they are just sure will sell big. Based on their emotion laden opinion they go out and sink large sums of company money into the new product line and start advertising.

And nothing happens.

Few if any orders come in. Costs start to mount up and without any revenue coming in from the project those costs soon become a threat to the survival of the business. The project is shut down at a loss. All of this because someone decided to roll out a new product without first asking their market if anyone actually wanted it.

This unfortunate cycle has caused the failure of more than a few small businesses. That's why smart business owners and corporate product managers do their market research before they sink any real money into a new product line. Their willingness to spend so freely for good market research creates a great opportunity for the average consumer.

Most of us are not short on opinions. We all know what we like and don't like. These companies are willing to pay you for your opinions, likes and dislikes. All that you have to do is identify those companies who are looking for market information and offer your opinion.

Aside from getting paid it's also fun to have a say in the new products being considered by the companies you team up with. You may offer input that leads to a highly successful new product line that will deliver utility and enjoyment to countless people for years to come.

Participating in paid surveys is a win-win for everyone. You get a check for offering your opinion while having a say in the products of the future and the company gets your valuable insight into the needs and desires of their marketplace.
