Advice on Starting a New Small Business
Recent reports that reveal the huge percentage of small businesses that fail is enough to put anyone off setting up on their own. On the other hand if you are thinking about creating your new small business there is no need for you to become another statistic. Follow some of the simple advice set out in this article and seriously increase your chances of success.
The first stage to ensuring your success and in fact the major stage is having a solid well thought out plan. You need to be thinking about finance, how much are your start up costs going to cost? How are you going to market you business, what will the marketing cost? Who are you going to work with and what expertise do you need? How are you going to offer your product or service, and what type of package are you going to deliver it in?
Be sure to decide right from the outset on the structure of your businessm are you going to be a sole trader, partnership or are you going to register a limited company? This is important as it effects many different areas of the business set up including legal arrangements, decision making and costs.
The think carefully about the vision you have for your business, what kind of service are you going to offer, how will you differ from you competitors, how do you envisage the business will grow in the coming years. You really need to do your market research to understand the industrial climate in which you are about to enter.
Competition analysis is an underestimated form of research. It will give you important insights whilst highlighting potential weaknesses your competitors may have. It will also help you estimate time and costs surrounding start up and help you manage your projections more effectively.
You also need to consider the insurance needs of your business, especially if your going to incorporate a company. If your providing a service or product then you will no doubt need some kind of insurance unless your product is provided virtually over the internet or my telephone. This type of insurance should not be expensive and the main things you should look to cover are products, employees and any vehicle you are planning to use under the company name.
Ensuring you are prepared will dramatically increase your chances of success and remember if you fail to prepare you should prepare to fail.
