Hair Transplant Options For Men
Hair transplant procedures and treatment for hair loss have been in the headlines this week as journalists speculate that Wayne Rooney is considering having a hair transplant. The young football player is noticeably thin on top and with the football season coming to the end, it is a perfect time to undergo the surgery required to give him flowing locks once more. He is not the only celebrity that has considered treatment of late, but with hair loss being a sensitive issue with men, sometimes it is not so easy to say who has or has not had treatment.
Jude law has been repeatedly cited as having had a hair transplant for a receding hair line, but some sources say the actor has used special topical creams to encourage growth instead. Other celebs such as Jamie Foxx on the other hand have had a transplant and are proudly showing off the results.
Judging by the paparazzi photographs, Mr Foxx has had a follicular unit transfer, also known as FUE. This is when donor follicles are taken from the back of the scalp, often individually, and then transplanted to the scalp. These follicles tend to produce hairs for far longer and therefore not sensitive to hair loss. The procedure is far more successful than older methods that were once popular. Because each follicle is transplanted individually, the result is far more natural.
Each hair is removed using a specialist surgical punch and then replanted in small incisions made in the recipient area. After seven days the recipient area and donor areas are completely healed, and within six months the new hair cannot be distinguished from the original hair line. For the best and most natural effect, some stars have had all their hair trimmed down using clippers so that new growth is at the same rate as the original hair.
By choosing to do this, the hair transplant is barely noticeable, and the sensitivity that some men experience about their hair loss is addressed. In some cases, oral medication is taken to help promote hair growth. These medicines can be used on their own in some cases, depending on the nature of the hair loss.
Ultimately, there are many reasons a man or woman may lose their hair and only a qualified hair transplant specialist can determine the need for surgery, medication or cosmetic applications to reduce the appearance of hair loss. If you are interested in a hair transplant, then it is recommended you consult an established professional to discuss the options.
