How To Make Product Testimonials Work For You

By Dee Braun

I have been marketing online for many years and, of all the techniques I've seen for pulling in new sales, testimonials are one of the best. Nothing works as well as word of mouth from a satisfied customer. I am going to help you learn how to effectively implement testimonials into your website.

First we will go over how you can get the testimonials. This is actually rather simple. You have to ask for them! There are many ways to do this using the internet. Here are some of them:

~ Make sure that you have a form that allows your customers to give a testimonial right on your website. Also, it should be linked in the navigation on each and every page. You can give it a name such as 'Add A Testimonial'.

~ There are services that allow you to gather testimonials easily. Public forums work really well for providing you with testimonial stock and giving you another forum to advertise your product(s).

~ After you make a sale, send an email to your customer telling them that you appreciate their business. Throw in a question asking them what they think about the product you sold the

~ Be sure to ask if you can use some personal details such as their first name and last initial. Testimonials that show a little user information are much better than 'ghost' testimonials.

Use your imagination. I'm sure there are many other ways to gather quality testimonials that I haven't mentioned here. You can try about anything to see how it works. Just make sure that you don't annoy your customers by asking over and over.

Now that you know how to get the testimonials the only thing left to learn is how to implement them. Here are a few great ways to do just that:

~ Show them on your website. You can have a webpage full of testimonials that is linked in the main site navigation. Another thing that works really well is to put several related testimonials right on the product page. General testimonials (ie. not relating to a specific product but your services/products in general) can be put in the side bars randomly throughout your website.

~ Add a testimonial (be sure it is short) to the signature on your emails.

~ If you have a monthly newsletter you can include one or two testimonials each time you send it out. You can also do this for printed marketing material such as brochures or pamphlets.

Be sure to constantly stay on the lookout for new testimonial stock. You can never have too many! Each testimonial you have adds unique content to your website which in turn makes it perform better in the search engines.
