The Jersey Shore -- 3 Things To Do Close To Home
With the cost of travel ever on the rise, sometimes it's nice to find things to do close to home. If you live near the Jersey Shore, you know there's no shortage of fun-filled activities sure to please the whole family. Morey's Piers and Beachfront Waterparks offers three different piers, packed with amusement rides, games, waterparks, and more. For a bird's eye view of the shore and skyline, climb the 228 stairs to the 150-year-old Absecon Lighthouse just outside of Atlantic City. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle to experience Jersey Shore nature at its best, take a trip to The Wetlands Institute at Stone Harbor.
Morey's Piers
Located in a prime seaside location in the Wildwoods, New Jersey, Morey's Piers has something to offer the whole family. Mariner's Landing Pier, Surfside Pier, and Adventure Pier make up this tremendous trio that includes an abundance of amusement rides for toddlers, kids, and adults. Whether you're seeking a casual turn on the carousel or a 50-mile per hour 100-foot vertical loop, Morey's has you covered.
Morey's Piers also has two beachfront waterparks, Raging Waters and The Ocean Oasis Waterpark and Beach Club. From kiddie pools and play areas to speed slides and lazy rivers, the waterparks at Morey's Piers are the perfect way to escape the summer sun. Parents can even rent private cabanas, dine poolside, and get a massage.
The three piers also have games, arcades, and multiple eateries to keep you going during your day by the beach.
Absecon Lighthouse
Located just outside Atlantic City, Absecon Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey and the third tallest in the United States. The lighthouse was built in 1857 and boasts a First-Order Fresnel lens that was made in Paris especially for this lighthouse. In 1997, the lighthouse underwent reconstruction and was opened to visitors in 1999.
Today, visitors who climb to the top of the lighthouse can enjoy panoramic views of the shore and skyline. Shipwreck and tide water exhibits, photos from the 1800's, memorabilia, and a "Lighthouse Illumination" video round out the tour. If you're looking for things to do close to home, don't miss this fun and educational opportunity to experience some Jersey Shore history.
The Wetlands Institute
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle, head to Stone Harbor and visit the Wetlands Institute. The Institute prides itself on combining entertainment and education as visitors explore gardens bursting with native plants, trek over beach and sand dunes, and enjoy live animal shows, kayaking, and boat rides.
Learn about the natural habitats of wildlife, flora and fauna that all call the Jersey Shore home. From the back bay and marshes to the expanses of the Atlantic Ocean, The Wetlands Institute offers children and adults a unique "hands on" learning experience.
If you're looking for things to do close to home this year, consider visiting some of the great attractions along the Jersey Shore.
