Three Ways To Improve Yourself And Your Business
There are dozens, possibly hundreds of ways to improve your online business. You can read them by the score in every article directory or on every consultant blog. They often have to do with psyching out the latest search engine algorithm, perfecting your pay per click ad, finding a less expensive supplier or making your shopping cart as easy as possible to navigate.
Those are all great approaches. But, possibly the biggest driver of your online business is you how you think, what your values are, how you manage. So, take a five minute break from your keyword analytics and traffic pattern tracking software to think about how you, as the ultimate inspiration for your business, can improve yourself and your business. Here are a few ideas to think about, in no particular order.
Products and Services to be Proud of
Have you spent any time recently thinking about whether the products and services you are selling are the best they can be? Can you feel good about the quality of the products? Do they do what you say they can do? Is there an improvement you can make? Have you read your customers' comments lately to see how you can realistically make your product better? Try it. And guess what? If you find ways to improve, you can talk about it! Send out a press release! Get a testimonial from a customer who appreciates your response and put it on your site or film it and host it on YouTube. You should always be innovating because innovation grows your business.
What should your business look like next year at this time?
It's very hard to get to the point you want to be at next year, if you haven't figured out what that point is supposed to be. It's very easy to fill up every day by ticking off things on your to-do list but ... take a good look at that list. Unless you are one of the very unusual business owners who has 'strategic planning' on their to-do list with an 'A' priority in front of it, your list is probably filled with the day-to-day projects and problems that keep the business humming but don't necessarily move it forward.
What's your plan? New products? Ten percent increase in revenue? Ten percent increase in profit? Expand to other countries? Great! What should you have on your to-do list today that will position you to be where you want to be in the future?
Is this the best use of your time?
Arguably, this author thinks that reading this article is an excellent use of your time. But, what do you think? Many, many people who work online waste a good deal of time, just based on the medium. They surf YouTube or they respond to emails as soon as they arrive, letting the mail interrupt any thoughts or activities in progress. They hang out on their Facebook page.
Okay, it's true that you might be able to label some of these things as social marketing, research, blah, blah, blah. But, let's get real. How much of what you have done so far today is about driving revenue? A good way to think about time management is to keep customer service first, revenue growth second, operational maintenance third and fit in everything else where you can with the exception that some things must be scheduled and addressed, even if they are big or hard to do, strategic planning for example.
