Hiking, playing and exploring the great outdoors is simply rewarding as spend quality time with them. As a loving parent who want to have memorable experience camping with your kids you wouldn't mind the extra effort at all.
Follow these tips if you want to increase you chances of having a smooth camping trip:
- Kids love to be involved in what their parents do because it makes them feel they're useful so let them. Ask for their input and make them of what they would need for a camping trip. Allow them to pack their own stuff but make sure you supervise them.
Showing that you trust your kids by getting them involved in the preparation for camping will teach them to think like responsible adult.
- You don't need a high quality sleeping bag for kids. A cheap junior sleeping bag is sufficient.
- Backyard camping will help to ensure that you don't miss anything for the actual camping trip.
- Teach your kids to pitch their own tents and other simple and safe tasks so that they can help out.
- Be sure to teach your kids some safety skills like blowing a whistle when they're in trouble or how to use a compass.
- Do some campfire singing and story-telling.
- Teach your kids to respect the natural beauty of the outdoors by taking them on day hike.
- Don't forget to teach them how to keep themselves safe at the camp. No playing with fire and no swimming in the lake alone are just some of the many rules they have to be familiar about.
- Create games out of camping chores to make them more fun and interesting. For example, engage them in a race for the fastest clean-up.
- Kids love to play with binocular so take them birdwatching.
- Insect repellent and sunscreen should be in your pack.
- Give your kid a flashlight or glow stick so that they feel more secured at night.
- Do some star-gazing.
- The first aid kit is essential so don't leave it behind.
- Have some night snacks. Not inside the tent of course. Before you go to sleep, a few chats and chips will surely be a great finale to a great day.
